Sarka
It would be restrictive to define Šárka simply as a novel on Second Life. It is true that it stems from Second Life, lingering on the virtual atmospheres of this incredible, but easily reachable (with any computer) world, but then it tackles issues and thoughts which are, after all, common to all of us. Merciless time passing by, the necessity to keep dreaming even if the age of projects and foolish passions is long gone, the need for confirmations we are not able to give ourselves: all this is Šárka and much more. But first of all, Šárka is a great love story, where the heart and brain of Marco, established architect, meet in search of a (perhaps impossible) balance. Each of us is likely to find a bit of oneself in this novel. And the charms of Šárka, wonderful Bohemian creature, incomparable creator of sensual atmospheres, will definitively mark the border between dream and reality. A different novel, a story that could occur to anyone who visits, or lives a “second life” on the web, where everything can happen, where the contact with reality is easily lost. One can fall in love with an avatar, with a character animated by a keyboard and a mouse. One can lose contact with their own soul and get stuck into the “artificial” life of a computer and a monitor. Can an avatar take the appearance, the thoughts and the habits of a real person? Can it have feelings, as a man or a woman? Can one lose their brain and search for the true love through the ups and downs of life, maybe distressing a tranquil life as a respected professional? For Šárka, all this and much more.
